Lessons from a Movie

So on Monday night, I decided to watch “A Trip to Unicorn Island”. Let me start off by saying that I am a huge fan o Lilly Singh (a.k.a. iiSuperwomanii). Not just because of her hilarious videos, but because of the amount of knowledge and wisdom that she brings to the world. On top of that, she is such a positive light in this world.

But this post is not about how great she is. If I’m being honest, I could go on forever about why she’s so awesome and how much I like her. This post is about one of the messages from her movie that reminded me why I write. And why I strive to find new places to write.

Lilly shares that her greatest worry is not believing in what she’s saying. Because if she doesn’t, then why should she expect others to believe in her message.

Making an impact in the world is not easy. And it goes way beyond people pleasing. When I would tell people that all I wanted was to make a difference in the world, they would call me a “people pleaser”. And I used to believe that and change the words I would use to describe my goal.

Now having grown up and finding someone who I look up to, who is ambitious as I think I am, I am not afraid to say it like it is.

I am very lucky to know what I want out of life and to refuse to give it up. Because I have seen so many people push their dreams aside for a reality they “had” to prescribe to.

And that’s why I write. Whether it be on this blog, on Odyssey and even choosing to claim a major that is my passion, I do this because I want to share my work. Because one day I know I’ll be able to impact someone’s life. Because I believe enough in myself to see through it and make my dreams a reality.

So I would like all of you to reflect and find they why behind the things that you do. Because it’s the only thing that mater in the end.
